4.6/5

Spirit Pieces is a cremation jewelry and glass art company in Austin, Texas. More than 40 artists fuse between 1/8 and 1/2 teaspoon of ashes into pendants, rings, orbs and suncatchers, set a lock of hair or fur into jewelry, or sell fill-at-home pieces you fill yourself.

The Verdict
Handmade glass keepsakes at fair prices, with a wait of several weeks

The ashes are sealed inside solid glass or resin, so there is no cap to open, and every product page states how much ash the piece uses before you buy. Before you order, know four things: each handmade piece will look similar to the photo but not identical, you pay the postage to mail the ashes back, cancelling before production costs $10, and the kit must be returned within 18 months. Spirit Pieces is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau.

Points come off for the wait, the return postage and the missing accreditation. If you need the piece in hand before a service in the next few weeks, or want solid gold or platinum, see the Lee Alexander section below.

Best for: anyone who wants a handmade glass keepsake with a person’s or a pet’s ashes, and several family members who each want a piece of their own.
Our Recommendation
Spirit Pieces Top-Selling Cremation Jewelry and Glass

For a keepsake made by hand with the ashes of your person or your pet.

The first worry with any company that works with ashes is whether the finished piece will hold your person’s ashes and no one else’s. Spirit Pieces keeps every order in its own separate workflow from the day your kit arrives to the day the piece ships, and owner Dave Blake invites customers to email him directly with any question. More than 26,500 customers have left reviews on its site. The top-selling collection is the shortest place to start: 108 pendants, rings and glass pieces that other customers chose most, each with its price and the amount of ash it uses printed on the page.

Under two minutes of your time

1 Pick a piece and check out.

2 Add the ashes to the free kit.

3 Mail the kit back.

4 Receive your finished piece.

Nothing is mailed until you choose a piece. The ash kit ships free after you order.

How Spirit Pieces Cremation Jewelry Is Made: The Ash Kit, Step by Step

You order first. Spirit Pieces then mails you a kit for the ashes, so nothing is sent before you buy.

  1. Choose a piece on spiritpieces.com and check out. The product page lists how much ash the piece uses, from 1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon.
  2. Receive the ash collection kit. Spirit Pieces mails the kit within seven business days of your order. The kit is free.
  3. Add the ashes with the scoop in the kit. Spirit Pieces says this step takes under two minutes. If you would rather not handle the ashes, Spirit Pieces suggests asking a friend or a local funeral home to do this step.
  4. Mail the kit back to Spirit Pieces. You pay this postage. The kit must be back within 18 months of the order.
  5. Receive the finished piece. An artist fuses the ashes into glass or sets them in resin. The piece ships in about 6 weeks after the kit arrives, and shipping in the United States is free.

Pieces made with hair or fur use a small lock instead of ashes. Spirit Pieces also sells 138 fill-at-home pieces with a median price of $79. These have a small chamber you fill yourself, so they do not need the kit.

If a funeral home offers you keepsake jewelry, you do not have to buy it there. The Federal Trade Commission’s guide to shopping for funeral services states that you can supply your own casket or urn.

Spirit Pieces Prices by Type of Piece

Memorial Merits counted the Spirit Pieces catalog on September 25, 2026. The table shows how many pieces each collection lists and the median starting price, so you can see what a typical piece costs before you shop.

Spirit Pieces Prices by Type of Piece (September 2026)
Type of piecePieces listedMedian starting priceHighest starting price
Cremation rings56$149$489
Pendants with ashes178$139$569
Bracelets and beads56$129$329
Glass orbs and paperweights62$259$889
Suncatchers21$169$289

Pet glass and jewelry57$129$399
Fill-at-home jewelry138$79$159

Starting price is the lowest option on each listing. Some pendants, such as the Petite Pear Drop, are sold without a chain. Spirit Pieces’ own product page always shows the current price.

Cremation Jewelry for Several Family Members From a Small Amount of Ashes

Each Spirit Pieces piece uses between 1/8 and 1/2 teaspoon of ashes, and the median piece starts at $129. That combination makes it possible to order a piece for each person who wants one, instead of choosing a single keepsake for one household.

Four pendants at 1/4 teaspoon each use about one teaspoon of ashes in total. The rest of the ashes can stay in the family urn, kept safely in one home.

Here is what that looks like in practice:

  • Adult siblings after the loss of a brother or sister. Each sibling receives the same pendant, or each chooses a different piece, and every piece holds a small amount of the same ashes.
  • A son or daughter leaving home. A pendant or pocket stone goes with them to college, the military or a new city, while the urn stays with the family.
  • Parents and grandchildren in different houses. Each household keeps its own piece, so no one has to decide which home holds the ashes.
  • A family pet. Every person who cared for the pet can have a paw print pendant or a touch stone of their own.

Ordering together also costs less. Spirit Pieces takes 10 percent off orders of $300 or more, 15 percent off $600 or more, and 20 percent off $1,200 or more, applied at checkout. Four Nightswirl pendants at $139 each total $556, which becomes $500.40 after the 10 percent discount, or $125.10 per pendant. Pieces from different artists can be combined in one order to reach a discount tier. Each artist sends a separate ash kit, so an order with pieces from three artists arrives as three kits, and each kit is filled and mailed back. Shipping is free when one artist ships to one address, and each artist can ship to a different address; to send finished pieces to different homes, write the addresses in the checkout order notes.

Top-Selling Spirit Pieces Cremation Jewelry and Glass Art

These six pieces come from the Spirit Pieces top-selling jewelry and top-selling glass collections. Each image and button opens that exact piece on Spirit Pieces.

Spirit Pieces Nightswirl cremation pendant, a round dark galaxy pattern glass pendant made with 1/4 teaspoon of ashes

Nightswirl Cremation Pendant: $139

A round glass pendant, about 1.25 inches across, with a dark galaxy pattern. It uses 1/4 teaspoon of ashes, and the way the ashes settle in the glass shapes the pattern, so no two come out the same. This pendant cannot be engraved or made in custom colors.

The dark tones read as understated rather than decorative, so it works with everyday clothes and with formal wear, and it suits men as well as women. At 1.25 inches it is large enough to see the ash pattern clearly and small enough to wear under a collar.

Best for: someone who wants a piece they can wear every day that looks like fine art glass, with a pattern that belongs to one person only.
Spirit Pieces Opal Heart cremation ring in brushed sterling silver with crushed opal, ashes and a white opal heart

Opal Heart Ring With Cremation Ashes: $119

A brushed .925 sterling silver ring with an 8 mm setting of crushed synthetic opal and ashes, topped with a small white opal heart. It uses 1/8 teaspoon of ashes, the smallest amount in this list. It comes in whole sizes 5 to 10, and you choose one to three opal colors.

Opal is one of the two birthstones for October, according to the Gemological Institute of America, so this ring can mark an October birthday or anniversary. The crushed opal mixes with the ashes in the setting, so the ashes are less visible than in clear glass. That suits someone who wants the ring to look like jewelry first.

Best for: an October birthday, someone who wants to wear the piece on their hand every day, and anyone who prefers the ashes blended into color rather than on display.
Spirit Pieces Petite Pear Drop cremation pendants in sterling silver and gold-plated silver with crushed opal and ashes

Petite Pear Drop Pendant With Cremation Ashes: $99 to $109

A small pear-shaped pendant, about 15 by 12 mm, in sterling silver for $99 or 14K gold-plated sterling silver for $109. It holds 1/8 teaspoon of ashes mixed with crushed synthetic opal in one to three colors. The chain is sold separately, and a 3-character engraving is available as an upgrade.

It is one of the lowest-priced pendants in the top-selling collection, which makes it the natural choice when several people each want a piece. The small size layers with other necklaces, and the gold-plated version matches gold jewelry someone already wears. Three engraved characters fit a set of initials.

Best for: ordering for several family members, a first piece for a teenager or grandchild, and anyone who wants initials on the back.
Spirit Pieces Memorial Glass Flame, a solid glass flame lying flat with a spiral of cremation ashes through the center

Memorial Glass Flame With Cremation Ashes: $229 to $329

A solid glass flame that lies flat, $229 for the 4.5-inch size and $329 for the 7-inch size, in six colors. The ashes run in a spiral through the middle of the glass. It uses 1/4 teaspoon of ashes and can carry a 10-character inscription as an upgrade.

The flat profile lets it rest on a desk, a shelf or a mantel without a stand. The spiral puts the ashes in plain view at the center of the piece, and ten characters is enough for a first name or a year.

Best for: a household that wants one shared piece on display, and anyone who wants the ashes clearly visible with a name alongside them.
Spirit Pieces Spirit Orb, a glass orb paperweight with a band of color and cremation ashes inside

Spirit Orb With Cremation Ashes: $189 to $269

A glass orb with a band of color that runs from the bottom to the top, $189 for the 3-inch size (about 1.5 to 2 pounds) and $269 for the 4-inch size (about 3 pounds). It uses 1/2 teaspoon of ashes and can carry a 10-character inscription as an upgrade.

Spirit Pieces describes the orb as suited to a garden or to a room inside the home. The weight gives it a solid feel in the hand, and the round shape sits well on a small stand or a windowsill.

Best for: a garden or a reading room, and anyone who wants a larger piece that holds more ashes than a pendant.
Spirit Pieces Eternal Light suncatcher, hanging glass pieces with cremation ashes in a sunny window

Eternal Light Suncatcher With Cremation Ashes: $159 to $179

A hanging glass suncatcher, $159 for two pieces (about 8 inches long) or $179 for three pieces (about 11 inches). The bottom piece comes as a heart, a paw, a leaf or a standard point, and you choose whether the ashes go in the colored glass or the clear center. It uses 1/4 teaspoon of ashes.

It hangs in a window, so daylight passes through the glass that holds the ashes. The paw bottom makes it a fit for a pet as well as a person, and the stainless steel chain holds up in a sunny window.

Best for: a kitchen or bedroom window you look at every day, and a pet memorial with the paw-shaped bottom.

Spirit Pieces Pet Cremation Jewelry and Keepsakes

Every Spirit Pieces product accepts pet ashes. The pet collection lists 57 pieces with a median starting price of $129 and includes dog and cat designs. To compare Spirit Pieces with other pet options, see our pet memorial urns and keepsakes directory, our guide to types of pet cremation jewelry, and our guide to what to do with pet ashes.

Spirit Pieces paw print pendant, a glass paw print necklace made with pet cremation ashes

Paw Print Pendant With Cremation Ashes: $159

A glass paw print pendant, about 1 inch across and 1/4 inch thick, with the ashes visible on the back. It comes in 15 colors and in a polydactyl version for cats with extra toes. It uses 1/4 teaspoon of ashes and cannot be engraved.

The paw print makes the pendant about the pet at a glance, and the 15 colors let you match a collar, a favorite toy or the pet’s coat. The polydactyl option exists for cats whose paws had extra toes.

Best for: a dog or cat owner who wants to wear the pet’s ashes every day, and polydactyl cats.
Spirit Pieces paw print touch stone, a 1-inch glass pocket stone made with pet cremation ashes

Paw Print Touch Stone With Cremation Ashes: $159

The same 1-inch glass paw print, made by the same artist, as a stone to keep in a pocket or on a desk instead of a pendant. It uses 1/4 teaspoon of ashes.

A touch stone is meant to be held. It fits in a pocket, a bag or a car console, and it suits people who do not wear necklaces or who want something a child can keep by the bed.

Best for: people who do not wear jewelry, children, and anyone who wants to carry the piece and hold it.
Spirit Pieces sleeping glass cat in calico colors, a 3-inch curled glass cat made with pet cremation ashes

Sleeping Glass Cat With Cremation Ashes: $139

A 3-inch glass cat curled up asleep, in calico colors. The ashes show as grey grains on the surface under a layer of clear glass, so they cannot rub off. It uses 1/2 teaspoon of ashes and can carry a 12-character inscription as an upgrade.

Spirit Pieces sized it for a desk, a table or a windowsill, the places a cat tends to sleep. Twelve characters fit a cat’s name and a year.

Best for: cat owners who want a piece for the room the cat used most, with the cat’s name on it.
Spirit Pieces glass dog bone, a standing glass bone sculpture made with pet cremation ashes

Glass Dog Bone With Cremation Ashes: $259 to $279

A standing glass dog bone, $259 for the 5-inch size or $279 for the 7-inch size. You pick up to two colors. With one color, the glass that holds the ashes stays clear so the ashes are easier to see. It uses 1/4 teaspoon of ashes.

The bone stands upright on its own, so it works on a shelf beside a collar or a photo. Two colors can match the dog’s collar or leash.

Best for: dog owners who want a display piece for the home rather than jewelry.

Spirit Pieces Jewelry Made With Pet Hair or Fur

If your pet was not cremated, or the ashes are not back yet, Spirit Pieces makes 23 pieces that hold a small lock of hair or fur instead of ashes. The median starting price is $89. The same pieces also work with human hair.

Spirit Pieces tree of life bracelet holding a small lock of pet fur or hair behind a tree of life charm

Fur and Hair Tree of Life Bracelet: $79

An adjustable bracelet with a 20 mm tree of life charm in plated brass, holding a small lock of fur or hair behind mica highlights. It comes in four bracelet colors with gold, silver or copper leaves, and a 20-character engraving is available as an upgrade.

At $79 it is the lowest-priced piece on this page. It needs only a small lock of fur, so it can be ordered right away, and the adjustable band fits most wrists without sizing.

Best for: pet owners who did not choose cremation, anyone waiting on ashes, and ordering several bracelets for one family.
Spirit Pieces oval tree of life pendant in sterling silver holding a small lock of pet fur or hair

Oval Tree of Life Pendant With Hair or Fur: $89

A .925 sterling silver oval pendant, about 20 by 16 mm, with a tree of life over a small lock of fur or hair. The leaves come in gold, silver or copper, and a 20-character engraving is available as an upgrade.

The sterling silver setting makes it the more formal choice of the two fur pieces. Spirit Pieces notes that it also works with a lock of a child’s hair.

Best for: someone who wants a sterling silver necklace with a pet’s fur and room for a name or date on the back.

Spirit Pieces Reviews and Complaints: Is Spirit Pieces Legit?

Yes. Spirit Pieces is a limited liability company in Austin, Texas, and has been in business since May 2014, according to the Better Business Bureau. This is what each review source showed on September 25, 2026:

  • Spirit Pieces’ own site: 26,500+ customer reviews listed.
  • Trustpilot: 4.2 out of 5 from 28 reviews, as shown in Google search results.
  • Better Business Bureau: an A rating, 3 complaints filed, and not BBB accredited.

Spirit Pieces reports that fewer than 1 in 1,000 pieces break in shipping. If yours arrives broken, send the company a photo of the damage and it will remake the piece or refund it. Owner Dave Blake asks customers on the company’s About page to email him directly with any problem.

Two things to plan for before you order: the finished piece ships in about 6 weeks after the kit goes back, and because every piece is handmade, yours will be similar to the listing photo, not an exact copy.

From the Author: Why Spirit Pieces Is a Vetted Listing on Memorial Merits

From the Author

Although I have not worked with the Spirit Pieces team directly, their reputation reached me before I ever looked them up. They have more than 26,000 reviews on their own site, 12 years in business, and a name that comes up again and again when people ask where to turn ashes into glass.

When I read through all 750 of their listings for this review, what stood out was not one showpiece. It was that 539 of those pieces start under $200, and that they are made by hand by more than 40 artists, for people and for pets alike. Beautiful, well-made work at a price within reach is rarer in this industry than it should be.

When a loss comes, every decision seems to carry a cost, and those costs stack up fast. A keepsake should not be one more thing a family has to stretch for. Spirit Pieces makes it possible for each person who loved someone to keep a keepsake of their own, and that is the reason they have a place in our directory.

Solid Gold and Platinum Cremation Jewelry: Lee Alexander & Co.

If you want a piece in solid 18K gold or platinum, Lee Alexander & Co. is the option we recommend. The code Memorial100 takes $100 off and can be combined with the Lee Alexander military discount. Lee Alexander sends a preparation kit, the piece ships within about 6 weeks of the kit’s return, and the company does not accept returns, so confirm the size and style before you order.
